Metro and light rail

Employees with safety-critical tasks in metro and light rail must regularly undergo health check-ups. The purpose of the check-up is to ensure that the person meets the health requirements for the work.

The health check-up is based on the Swedish Transport Agency's regulation on the health survey and health status of staff with duties relevant to road safety (TSFS 2019:113). The survey shall be carried out at the following intervals:

The survey shall be carried out at the following intervals:

  • Before the work starts
  • Every five years until the day before the age of 41
  • Every three years from the age of 41 to the age of 62
  • Every year after the age of 62

The health examination shall also be carried when:

  • an employee has been absent for more than 30 days
  • an employee is removed from duty due to accident/incident

In order for the occupational health physician to know what health requirements the employee is facing, you must inform us in the order the employee's duties and what the work entails. You must also be able to specify which items within Section 7 the employee works within:

  • Driving vehicles
  • Lead or monitor rail services (e.g. train dispatcherli, train conductor, chief supervisor)
  • Assess the road safety of vehicles or track installations (e.g. surveyor, signal safety inspector)
  • Otherwise, operate and work on tracks according to the operator's safety management system (e.g. train officer, traffic assistant, supervisor with A, E, L or S protection)

How it works

  1. Order service Once you have ordered the service, your employee is booked for the health examination. The time will be notified by e-mail to the employee with a copy to you as the orderer.
  2. Health examination The visit includes drug test, vilo-ECG, sampling, doctor's Visit with a health declaration. Your employee should bring any glasses recipes/optician certificates and/or hearing aids to the visit.
  3. Physical The doctor issues a medical opinion. The statement will be sent to you as the employer in accordance with the agreement when ordering the check-up. If the employee is not serviceable, the manager concerned will be informed immediately.


You as a manager and authorized customer can order services directly online. After you have placed your order, we will send you a confirmation email.
