A digital rehab process helped Siemens Energy

Good examples

The speed at which rehabilitation efforts are implemented and how the process unfolds is of great importance for both the workplace and employees' health. When the opportunity arose to try something new, Siemens Energy decided to change its rehabilitation process and make it digital.

– We will continue to work with the upgraded process that we have implemented together with Falck and develop it further. We see that we have a very good collaboration, says Margaretha Lindblom, Health Manager at Siemens Energy in Sweden.

After a long and constructive collaboration, there was an opportunity in 2022 to achieve a more comprehensive and objective management of Siemens Energy's rehab cases at Falck. The result was that Siemens Energy was one of the first companies to test Falck's newly introduced Rehab Online.

After a successful pilot, the project was scaled up and now all Siemens Energy's Swedish rehab cases are coordinated digitally by a rehab coordinator from Falck.

– Digitizing the rehab coordination has proven to be beneficial both for us as a company and for the managers and employees who have been involved in individual cases, says Margaretha Lindblom.

That our rehabilitation coordinator has good customer knowledge makes the collaboration successful

A dedicated rehab coordinator

A major advantage of Rehab Online is the ability to have a dedicated central Rehab Coordinator who coordinates all the client's rehab cases.

– Our Rehab Coordinator knows what opportunities we have in terms of work adaptation, internal guidelines, how our production looks, challenges in the workplace, etc. The fact that the person has good customer knowledge makes the collaboration successful, says Margaretha Lindblom.

Having a central Rehab Coordinator also means that the work is objective and that a structure can be established that is then followed in all cases.

– There are often many stakeholders involved in rehab cases, which makes it important that the person who leads the rehab work is objective and has a high level of competence. We want to employee who is subject to rehab to feel that the process is fair and that we as employers are doing what we should, says Margaretha Lindblom.

Faster processes

Rehab cases can be lengthy and take a lot of time. Another advantage of Rehab Online is that the process becomes more efficient. Both at Siemens Energy and Falck, measurements clearly show the time saved. For Siemens Energy, the change has also meant a better functioning rehab process and better outcomes in rehab cases.

Siemens Energy still has the option of physical visits with other stakeholders in the rehabilitation process, such as doctors and physiotherapists, locally across the country.

– We adapt the rehab process based on the employee and collaborate with local units to ensure high quality. The advantage of having a central Rehab Coordinator is that the person acts as a spider in the web and has regular contact with the others involved from Falck and from the client, says Camilla Österman, Rehab Coordinator at Falck and central Rehab Coordinator for Siemens Energy.

A shared vision

Siemens Energy's vision in terms of health is to move the company from reactive to proactive. The rehab work not only includes rehab cases, but together with the Rehab Coordinator from Falck and HR from Siemens Energy, the work is also followed up and developed regularly.

At regular inventory meetings, which are carried out online, statistics from Falck's Sick and Healthy tools are reviewed. The focus right now is on short-term absences to prevent long-term sick leave.

– The collaboration is based on identifying challenges and areas for improvement together and working long-term to contribute to a good working environment with healthy employees through a systematic approach both at the individual and organizational levels, says Camilla Österman.
