Seafarers, Limited Examination

The statutory check-up complies with the legal requirements of the pattern (1983:929) and Ship Security Regulation (2003:438) and applies to seafarers who work on internal speed/fishermen.

What it is

Statutory Check-Up – Seafarers Limited Examination is done to detect potential health risks for seafarers who work on internal speed/fishermen, sush as:

• Speed in traffic within Sweden and off the coasts, but not more than one nautical mile (1852 meters) from a port or other place where the ship can find shelter.
• Speed in Kalmar sund and national speed in Öresund.
• Speed in sea area D, as defined in the Ship Safety Ordinance (2003:438).

The check-up includes an eye examination, hearing examination. If you are looking for a general medical examination including a health declaration, you should instead order the full examination. After the check-up, we will issue a Manila certificate and serviceability assessment. The serviceability assessment is based on the doctor finding that the seafarer meets the requirements for sight and hearing that apply to the intended service.

How it works

1. Order service
   When you have ordered the service, your employee is booked in for the check-up. The time is communicated in a text message to the employee.
2. Visit
   The visit consists of an eye examination, hearing examination.
3. Feedback
   The Manila certificate and the service ability assessment submitted to the employee.

Information for employees

• Bring any glasses prescription/optician certificate and/or hearing aids to the examination.

For the examination the employee needs to state their position:

• Group 1: Deck Commander, mate, helmsman, lookout, the person who is part of the safety crew and belongs to the deck department.
• Group 2a: Deck Other personnel in the deck department who are not part of Group 1.
• Group 2b: Machine, Machine staff.
• Group 3: Superintendent/other Other staff.
• Group 4: Radiotelephony personnel Radio personnel responsible for GMDSS.
