Statutory check-ups

Seafarers, unrestricted and restricted service areas

Order

A statutory health check-up that meets the legal requirements of the Seafarers Registration Act (1983:929) and the Ship Safety Regulation (2003:438), and is intended for seafarers working in unrestricted navigation (worldwide) and restricted navigation (Europe).

What it is

This statutory medical check-up for seafarers in unrestricted and restricted service areas is carried out to reduce health risks for seafarers working in unrestricted and restricted service areas. A full check-up must also be carried out if, as the employer, you assess that an additional examination is needed due to illness or other factors affecting fitness for duty.

After the check-up has been completed, we provide a certificate and a fitness-for-duty assessment. The fitness-for-duty assessment is based on the physician’s judgment that the employee does not have any illness that may pose a risk to the health or safety of other people on board. The employee must not have any illness that may be aggravated by, or make him or her unfit for, service at sea. The employee must also meet the vision and hearing requirements that apply to the intended service.

How it works

  1. Order service
After the order has been placed, the employee will be scheduled and an invitation will be sent. You need to specify the job title in the order form and write in the message field which navigation area applies: unrestricted or restricted.
  2. Visit
During the visit, a general medical check-up is carried out, including a health declaration, vision test, hearing test, and screening for possible tuberculosis.
  3. Feedback
The certificate and fitness-for-duty assessment are provided to the employee.
